Chicken lips is a favorite food for many. From little kids to adults, it can be a popular food choice. Want a simple chicken lips recipe that tastes delicious? Then look no farther. With a little bit of time and not very many ingredients, you too can prepare these for your family.
When it comes to sauce, I like mine without any at all. The breading made from this recipe gives it a great flavor already. So, I don't include sauce in this recipe, but I do include some suggestions for those that enjoy having sauce.
These chicken lips look a lot like chicken tenders, and they are delicious. Especially with the breading. And they are very simple to make.

Items needed
When preparing this recipe, you do not need a lot of items. Which then makes it nice for cleanup too. Here is what you need.
- Large bowl or mixing bowl
- A smaller bowl
- Cutting board
- A large skillet
- Tongs
- Serving platter or tray
- Paper towels
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoon olive oil (or 2 tablespoons vegetable oil).
- 1 pound of frozen or fresh boneless chicken breasts
- ¼ a quart buttermilk (1 cup buttermilk)
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
Directions
I like to try and make things as simple as possible when cooking. So, when I make this chicken lips recipe, simple it is.
- Add the flour, salt and the pepper into a large bowl. (You may prefer more than a teaspoon salt and teaspoon pepper).
- Pour the buttermilk into a smaller bowl.
- On a cutting board, slice your fresh boneless chicken breasts into thin long strips. (I cut them horizontally first).
- Dip each strip individually into the buttermilk.
- Combine chicken and flour mixture by dredging the strip through it.
- Set aside on a paper towel.
- Continue with the remaining strips of chicken.
- Put olive oil in a large skillet.
- Over medium heat, using the tongs, place the chicken lips into the skillet.
- Cook the chicken lips evenly on both sides, until there is no pink. I have found that medium-high heat tends to cook the outer part too quickly.
Dip
Now that you have made your delicious chicken lips, do you serve them plain or with a chicken lip dip? If you would prefer to have a sauce for them, here are some to consider.
- Hot sauce
- Buffalo sauce
- BBQ sauce
- Sour cream dipping sauce
- Ranch dressing
- Cheese sauce
Added notes
- If you would prefer you could buy a whole chicken and slice it into the sizes, you would like.
- You could cut the chicken into small pieces like chicken chunks.
- If you are a fan of cheese, you may like cheese sauce drizzled over them. Making for cheesy chicken lips.
- Another option is to serve chicken lips on a bun or on bread.
Sides
These chicken lips would pair well with several things. Here are some ideas.
- Green onions and celery for dipping.
- Cherry tomatoes
- Yellow bell pepper, red peppers and a cup ranch dip.
- Red bell pepper and tortilla chips.
Money and time saver
- When I buy fresh boneless chicken breasts from the meat counter it saves me money. I save money by only purchasing the amount of chicken that I need. Rather than buying a larger package which is more expensive. For this recipe I only used two chicken breasts. I compared the prices at my local store when I purchased them. The two-chicken breasts were $4.59. A larger and prepackaged pack was almost $14.00. Yes, it did have more chicken in it, but I did not need it. I saved almost $9.50.
- I have a time saving tip when making this chicken lips recipe. I slice the fresh boneless chicken breasts horizontally. This helps the chicken to cook faster. And it also allows for me to get more chicken strips out of it.
