This devil's food chocolate cake mix made from scratch is a family favorite. It is very moist and tastes delicious.
- Cocoa powder
- White sugar
- Flour
- Baking powder
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Eggs
- Salt
- Milk
- Water
Homemade Cream filling
The next step is making the homemade version of Suzy Q filling. This cream filling recipe is an alternative to using marshmallow fluff or marshmallow creme.
- Unsalted butter
- Flour
- White sugar
- Salt
- Milk
Items needed
- Nonstick cooking spray
- Mini loaf pans
- Medium bowl
- Large bowl
- Electric mixer
- Cake spatula
- Airtight container
Directions to make copycat Suzy Q cake recipe with cream filling
Cake batter
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Lightly grease mini loaf pans. If you do not have them, you can use a cake pan.
- Mix all of the ingredients together in a large bowl.
- Using an electric mixer on medium to high speed, mix well. Be sure to also mix the ingredients along the sides of the bowl.
- Let the devil's food cake mix rest for a few minutes to thicken a little bit.
- Pour each loaf three fourths full of mixture.
- Cook in the oven for approximately fifteen minutes. Or until a toothpick inserted comes out with nothing on it.
- Allow to cool completely.
Cream filling
- In a medium bowl, mix all of the ingredients together.
- Mix together well with an electric mixer.
- To help mixture to set, refrigerate for about thirty minutes.

- Slice each cake loaf horizontally in half.
- Spread some cream filling on the bottom layer of each loaf making a second cake layer.
