I love a good cheeseball. So, when I came across an adorable hedgehog cheese ball, I knew I had to make one. Cheese balls are great for a lot of different occasions. A party, holiday or cookout to name a few.
There are not a lot of differences when making a hedgehog cheese ball from other cheese balls. I am going to share with you how I make mine. It does not take a long time and does not have to be expensive to make either. This easy cheese ball recipe makes a cute little hedgehog. Wanting to make a larger one? Try doubling the recipe.

Where to serve a cheese ball
When you would like to bring a side dish somewhere, this hedgehog cheese ball is a great option to choose. Here are some ideas.
- Holiday gathering
During the Christmas season, this would make a cute and festive side dish to bring to a holiday gathering. Adding some fake sprigs around it could add to the holiday feel.
- Woodland themed baby shower
What a perfect addition to a woodland themed baby shower. A woodland hedgehog cheese ball. If you know ahead of time it will be a woodland baby shower, consider offering to bring a cheeseball. What an added surprise it would be to turn it into a hedgehog cheeseball.
- Fall cookout
With the weather changing and the thought of a fall cookout, this would be a neat side dish to share.

What to have with cheese spread
There are several options to have with your cheese spread. Here are some to consider.
- Buttery crackers
- Celery
- Pretzels
Items needed
- Mixing bowl
- Plastic wrap or aluminum foil
- Cookie sheet or shallow pan
- Serving platter
- 8 ounces of soft cream cheese
- ½ cup of cheddar cheese, shredded.
- ⅛ - ¼ of an 8-ounce packet of ranch dressing mix.
- Green onion, to your liking.
- 3 chocolate chips
- Sliced almonds, as many as you would like.
Hedgehog cheese ball simple recipe
- In a mixing bowl, add all of the ingredients except for the chocolate chips and almonds.
- Mix well with a food processor or a spoon until mixed thoroughly.
- Set in the refrigerator covered with plastic wrap or aluminum foil until mixture can be formed. Approximately 1-2 hours.
- Then place the mixture on a cookie sheet or shallow pan and form into a hedgehog shape. One way is to form it into the shape of a football and flattening the bottom side of it. Then on one end round it out a little bit.
- Begin adding rows of slivers of almonds leaving a little room towards the pointed end for the face.
- Add two chocolate chips for the eyes and one for the nose.
- Place on a serving platter, cover in plastic wrap and refrigerate until ready to serve.
Added notes
- Sour cream could be added to this recipe. If used, try adding in a small amount at a time as it can cause it to be runny.
- Additional ingredients that could be used is dill weed, bacon pieces and onion soup mix.
- Another option when using almonds is to use whole almonds.
- More options to use in place of almonds could be small pretzel sticks or chocolate chips.
- Dressed up even more, this could be used as a stunning centerpiece that is edible as well.
- If in need of help when smoothing out the hedgehog cheeseball, try using a rubber spatula.
- If you have any leftovers, store them in an airtight container to have the next day.
