7 Fun things to do this fall!

1. Hiking
Are you a fan of hiking? Or is it maybe something you have been wanting to try out? Fall is a beautiful time to go and explore all that the season has to offer especially while hiking on a trail. The changing of colors in the leaves, the fresh cooler air, and also the crunching of leaves as you walk, can give you the feelings of fall.
It does not have to be an all day event. You can go at your own pace and choose the amount of time you would like to spend. Wear some comfortable shoes, and dress for the weather. Don't forget to keep hydrated as well.
If you would like, you could make it a day trip and visit a place you have never been to before. Or maybe is there a trail you already enjoy going to? Is there a hiking trail near you with waterfalls? No matter where you and your family decide to hike, enjoy this fun and frugal outing together.
2. Pumpkin picking.
Going to a pumpkin patch is a great way to enjoy the fall. In addition to getting to pick out pumpkins, there are many other fun things that you can do too. Different pumpkin patches offer different things. Some of them that my family and I have been to have had hayrides, corn mazes, face paintings, farm animals, photo props and treats galore.
Some pumpkin patches may charge an admission fee. This fee may cover some things like a pumpkin or hayride. To help stay within your budget, a helpful tip would be to contact them before you go to ask about fees and other costs. Pick a budget that you would like to stay within. Breakdown prices for the things that they offer and let your kids know what they can spend.

3. Apple picking.
Visiting an apple orchard can be an enjoyable fall activity to take part in. As fall draws closer and the weather cools down, this is a time for apple picking. You and your family can choose the exact apples you would like. This can be exciting for children especially. They are not only seeing them at the store, rather on trees and finding enjoyment in the hunt for their perfect apples. This can help teach them how to pick out fruit. For example, looking for apples that are not nicked or bruised.
Before making a trip, call ahead to ask about pricing. Set an amount you would like to spend and let the kids know how many apples they may pick.
4. Bonfires.
Do you, a family member or friend have a fire pit? If so, enjoying a nice warm bonfire on a chilly fall day or night could be a fun and frugal thing to do. A plus is that bonfires do not only have to be enjoyed at night time.
Gathering around talking with family and friends can be a fun way to get out and enjoy the crisp weather. You can enjoy good conversation and share stories, drink hot cocoa and simply relax. It is a great way to unwind. You could include budget friendly treats such as marshmallows and hotdogs for roasting.

5. Festivals.
Fall festivals hold a lot of nostalgia for me. They bring back great memories of fun times spent with family and friends at them. There are different costs for things at festivals. To help keep it budget friendly, plan out your trip ahead of time. Find out if there is a fee to get into the festival. Are there rides or games? If so, is there a cost for them and how much are they? Take into consideration the cost for food too.
Set aside a set amount of money for each thing you plan to spend money on. This will help you and your family to be able to do the things you want to do and stay within your budget. Perhaps allow each of your children to pick out a couple of rides or games they would like to do. Let them know ahead of time what they can choose from and how many things they can choose to do.
6. Baking.
Baking can be a fun activity to do anytime of the year, but there is just something about baking in the fall. Filling your home with the fresh aromas from what you are baking to having the beautiful scenery of fall outside of your window while you are baking.
I shared pumpkin picking and apple picking above. If you do choose to do either of them, incorporating your bounty into this activity can help make it a more frugal activity. How about baking apple pie, apple crisp or pumpkin pie? Make it a fun afternoon of baking with your family.

7. Backyard campout.
Who says you have to go outside of your very own backyard to have a campout? Especially if you would like to save some money by not camping from afar. You can have a family backyard campout of your very own. Setting up a tent, gathering sleeping bags and pillows along with some flashlights can bring the experience right to you. There will be no dreaded long drive home either.
There are many fun backyard campout activities you can do. Some of those may include building a bonfire and roasting hot dogs and marshmallows or having a scavenger hunt. Other fun activities could include reading a book by flashlight and looking at the beautiful stars by telescope.
This fun fall activity makes for a frugal one and you don't even have to leave your backyard to do it.
Conclusion
Fall is a great time to get out and enjoy the cooler weather with family and friends. You don't have to spend a lot of money to enjoy some of the fall activities.
