I save money and time when I plan out my meals and pick some items that are in our weekly grocery ad. I am sharing 5 budget friendly meals for 4 using sale items. These can definitely help to keep it budget friendly.
When grocery shopping, it has been my experience that fresh produce tends to be more expensive than processed food items. When I make time to plan ahead and buy sale items, I am able to keep my grocery bill manageable while still providing healthy meals for my family. This is why I think it is important to plan ahead rather than just going to the grocery without a plan at all.
I will share five easy-to-prepare meal ideas for a family of 4 using sale items that are in my weekly Kroger add so everyone can eat well without spending too much money. A handful of items for the meals will be things that we usually already have on hand at home. The ingredients may not be the amount you may want. You can add to them but just remember to add that amount to your total amount budgeted. If this sounds like something that would work for you, please continue reading.

5 Meals
Ground Sirloin taco bowls
This is a simple and filling meal. It happens to be one of my favorites to make. If you are pressed for time or may not want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, this is a great option. All you need in addition to your ingredients and cookware are bowls and silverware. This makes for easy cleanup as well.
- 1 pound of Fresh Angus ground sirloin.
- ⅛ cup of frozen chopped onions.
- a pinch of salt
- a pinch of pepper
- shredded cheese
- salsa
- sour cream
- tortilla chips
Brown the ground sirloin until cooked through and no longer pink along with chopped onions, salt and pepper. Drain off excess grease from mixture. Divide the meat mixture into four bowls. Break apart tortilla chips and mix into meat mixture. Set out the shredded cheese, salsa and sour cream for everyone to add what they would like. If you have any other toppings you would like to add, be sure to set them out as well.
Stuffed peppers
Do you like stuffed peppers? These are simple to make and also filling. A side of broccoli would go well with these.
- 4 Bell peppers
- 1 pound of Fresh Angus ground sirloin
- 2 tablespoons of frozen chopped onions
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
- a pinch of salt
- a pinch of pepper
- ⅛ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 1 can of crushed tomatoes
Rinse well and dry the peppers. Cut the top of the peppers off and remove the seeds. Mix together in a bowl the meat, chopped onions, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, bread crumbs and crushed tomatoes. Grease a baking dish with the vegetable oil. Place peppers in dish and evenly fill each one with mixture. Then add remaining mixture over the top. Bake at 450 degrees for approximately 45 minutes.
Cheese and broccoli Quiche
This is a yummy and quick dish to prepare. Adding a side serving of hearty tomato soup can help to build a filling meal.

- 3 cups of broccoli
Grease a pie pan with oil. Over medium heat, heat oil and saute broccoli for about a minute. Place broccoli in pie pan. Mix together salt, pepper, milk, eggs and cheese in a bowl. Pour into pie pan over broccoli. In preheated 350 degrees oven, bake for approximately 35-40 minutes or until cooked through. Let cool and then serve.
In a saucepan, cook the two cans of soup together over medium heat. Bring to a boil and then let simmer a few minutes or until it is to your liking. Divide the soup evenly among four bowls, let cool and serve.
